Hysterectomy: Prehab to Rehab
Do you work with women who have gone through Hysterectomy? Would you like to increase your knowledge and skills in helping them navigate the short, medium & long term challenges they'll face? If so, you're in the right place - Welcome!
Hysterectomy - what it is, why it happens, what we need to know, how we can help...
It's the second most common surgical procedure women go through...but one of the least talked about, in terms of prehab and rehab strategies for pelvic, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and mental health
This course goes all the way from education about the different types of hysterectomy, to preparing body, mind and home for surgery, short term strategies for pain management, wound healing, bowel health and breath work to the longer term pathways for musculoskeletal health, scar mobility, pelvic & sexual health and risk reduction.
This is a comprehensive evidence based practical course, that will fill your toolbox with manual therapy and movement strategies, as well as the knowledge to discuss procedures and their implications as well as bring awareness to issues such as longer term musculoskeletal and pelvic health issues, from new onset Irritable Bowel Syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinopathies, bone health, cardiac, cognitive and metabolic health, as well as pelvic health issues including bladder, bowel, prolapse, sexual health & persistent pain.
And of course, as with all my courses, you have access to my private student support group on Facebook for additional support and resources.
Learning Objectives:
Review the indications and surgical strategies involved in hysterectomy; be aware of the implications of wound healing, scar mobility and pressure management
Understand the early and late potential complications associated with hysterectomy, including pelvic pain, bowel, bladder, and sexual dysfunction, and their impact on quality of life
Examine the existing body of evidence supporting the inclusion of rehab and conservative management techniques in addressing musculoskeletal, cardiac cognitive & metabolic health in the context of hysterectomy.
Acknowledge the psychosocial as well as the biological impacts of hysterectomy, with special regards to grieving and changing body image
Formulate strategies for the inclusion of rehabilitation in ERAS guidelines all the way though to post-hysterectomy life, considering multidisciplinary & lifestyle approaches and patient-centred care in pre and post-hysterectomy management.
